MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

This past weekend saw the release of a new trailer for upcoming giant smashy explodey robot game, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. As you may be aware we’ve been reporting here at GamEir on the progress of MechWarriors strategy cousin BattleTech, well now it’s time to turn our attention to the first person darling of the robot franchise.

The Game

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be the first single player game in the franchise available on PC in over 15 years, following on from MechWarrior 4’s last expansion being released in 2002. The game itself shadows the plot of BattleTech. The player takes control of a mercenary pilot, working at the helm of one of these bipedal behemoths of destruction. Set in the year 3015, the galaxy has been in a state of war for over a century. Several Great Houses duke it out in a massive interplanetary power struggle across hundreds of worlds. Missions are selected by the player and will be offered up by any of the various factions. The player’s choices will affect the political landscape and change the dynamic of power as each faction vies for control of the “Inner Sphere”; a cluster of systems closest to the centre of colonized space.

The Trailer

Focussing on the missions, this new trailer is the first footage developer Piranha have dropped since December 2017. The game is clearly progressing well through development. The weather systems, destructible environments, and the various landscapes are all visible in the video and look enticing. We get to see some of the weapons systems players will get to choose from, as well as a couple of enemy mech types we’ll get to blow up.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is scheduled for release on PC in December 2018, check the trailer below, and for all else gaming stay right here.

Brian started gaming on a Commodore 64 before you were born. He played everything worth playing on every platform worth playing them on since then, but refuses to mess with that new fangled VR stuff. Makes him nauseated he says.
