If you happened to miss it last weekend, PC Gamer had their press conference showing over some games coming in the coming year. Most of which will predominantly be on PC. A particular favourite of mine was the first gameplay trailer for Evil Genius 2. It’s been almost 16 years since I’ve set out to dominate the world with my army of evil henchmen and minions. Boy did that trailer bring some nostalgia back to me, seeing new base building mechanics, henchmen and traps.
If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It
From what I can see the game hasn’t departed too much from the old game’s features and building concepts. The trailers show us a step by step guide on how to set up our evil organisation and to finally achieve world domination. Steps such as carving out rooms in our mountain resort, recruiting minions and henchmen, collecting evil monuments and all the usual evil stuff.
What I do love is the Austin Powers style of animation and design on the character models. You seem to have a selection of 4 evil geniuses which I assume have their own bonuses within the game. At least that’s the way it worked in the first Evil Genius game. From looking at the Evil Genius 2 website I can see they got the original composer back to do the new soundtrack. I’m expecting some big things from Rebellion.
Due to release sometime in 2020, Evil Genius 2 has only been confirmed for PC. There’s a couple more develop logs and interviews slated over the coming weeks so I’m sure we won’t have to wait too long to get a release date. Check out the Evil Genius 2 site for more concept art, videos and sign up for the beta.
