EA Sports FC 27 is coming this week

This Friday sees the return of the most popular and best football franchise, EA Sports’ FC27. For those of you who have been living under a rock, this is the game formerly known as FIFA. Last year’s iteration was head and shoulders the best football game on the market. Having said that, it was a little too similar to the previous year’s title. You can catch my reviews here and here.

What’s New?

Now to justify its AAA price tag, we are hoping to see some new innovation. Otherwise, fans would just play EA FC 26. So what have we been promised this year?

One of the most interesting additions to FC 27 is “The Grounds”. It seems to be a semi-open-world type area where you can explore and jump into a variety of games. The match types are varied too. You can have 1v1, small astroturf matches and many, many more. The promise that the areas you explore are going to evolve with time is very promising.

Along with that, they have said they have tightened the gameplay to make it more realistic. The transfer market has also received an overhaul. And the old favourites like Ultimate Team, Leagues and Manager mode will all be returning.

Top Bins or Rubbish Bins?

It does look fantastic as ever, but whether it plays like a DLC or feels worthy of a brand-new title remains to be seen.

As I have said before, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. But if you are charging me for a game, make it different if you want my money. I’m really excited about the new features this year and this could be worth the punt.

EA 27 doesn’t really have a proper competitor when it comes to football games. Long gone are the days when Pro Evolution really pushed them to innovate and offer something new. But while the accusations of games being the same, the quality has always remained consistently good. I do like that they try to add in something new, and this year EA look to have gone further to vary gameplay.

It remains to be seen but I am quietly optimistic about this year.

EA FC 27 is out on Friday 25th September.
