The time has finally come. After terrifying people for almost 40 years, a Hellraiser game is now on the horizon. Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games have announced Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revival. This is the first ever actual Hellraiser game that we’re getting. The legendary Doug Bradley is reprising his role as iconic Cenobite Pinhead. As well as this, Clive Barker himself is involved in bringing the story to life. The game will also feature other instantly recognisable Cenobites. And from the trailer, they are all looking incredible so far.
You will play as Aidan, who is trying to rescue his girlfriend Sunny from the hellish Labyrinth. We are missing the traditional Lament Configuration, in favour of the new Genesis Configuration. This combined with earthly weapons will allow players to unleash intense pain, or maybe even pleasure.
Raising Hell on Earth
Undeniably, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revival is not going to be a game for younger audiences. If there was ever any doubt in anyone’s minds, the content warning on the Steam page includes:
- mature language
- strong violence
- gore
- torture
- consensual mutilation
- drug and alcohol abuse
- tobacco use
- non-explicit consensual sex.
- themes of suicide, domestic abuse, BDSM practices, and addiction.
Of course none of the above is surprising if you are familiar with Barker’s writing, and the Hellraiser franchise in general. Pain and pleasure are deeply engrained at the heart of the series.
And as if things couldn’t get better, the game will also be getting a physical release! There are TWO special Collector’s Editions available to preorder via Boss Team Games. This entire adventure is set to be a horror masterpiece. I don’t know about any of you, but I may need to make a deal with the Cenobites to get my hands on the Leviathan Collector’s Edition.
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revival doesn’t have a release window just yet, but is set to launch on Xbox Series, Playstation 5, and PC via Steam.
