New Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 details were revealed at Gamescom and on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel. Treyarch showed fans what to expect when the game launches on November 14.
Back To The Future
Black Ops 7 is going back to the future as players will be thrown into 2035. Veteran players will remember the main characters of the Black Ops 7 campaign: David Mason is returning as the main protagonist while iconic villain Raul Menendez seems to be back from the dead to bring chaos to the world. The campaign looks to bring a lot of action, which the series is best known for but will also bring some of the mind-bending, trippy plot that the Black Ops franchise excels at.
Menendez is back and he is threatening the world again after his actions in Black Ops 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to Black Ops 2. Mason and the Guild, a tech giant run by CEO Emma Kagan, a new character to the series, are here to try and stop him.
Co-op returns in the campaign with four players able to play together on this action adventure. A new mode called Endgame is also coming to the campaign. 32 players can play it together, allowing players to unleash chaos in Avalon, a fictional city in the Black Ops universe. Treyarch said that Endgame will add more replayabilty to the campaign. Endgame is the last part of the campaign and players will face overwhelming odds to survive. Avalon will be opened up to fully explore. Assignments can be completed in Endgame for rewards. New skills can be unlocked depending on player’s combat rating. Global progression is also here. XP can now be earned across campaign, multiplayer and zombies.
Multiplayer
It wouldn’t be a Call of Duty reveal without multiplayer. Treyarch are bringing 16 electrifying 6v6 maps on launch day. A new game mode called Skirmish is also coming and it is a large-scale game mode. The mode will have two 20v20 maps with a wingsuit mechanic being introduced to help players traverse the map. Players can also share weapon builds. Any weapons that players love they can now share that same loadout to their friends. Customisation promises to bring hundreds of options like camos and attachments. More details about progression will be revealed at a later date.
Return Of The Living Dead
Round-based zombies return again to Black Ops 7. An iconic game mode to the Black Ops series, players fight to survive waves of undead hordes while upgrading their gear and even solving easter eggs to reveal the story of the zombie universe. Legendary zombie characters, Richtofen, Dempsey, Nikolai and Takeo also return. The official zombies reveal is just weeks away so more will be revealed then.
While some interesting things were shown, Black Ops 7 will have a difficult time convincing players to come over as Battlefield 6 recently had its beta and was a massive success, even beating Call of Duty’s steam numbers. Call of Duty has been criticised for losing it’s identity with skins and bundles from American Dad to Beavis and Butthead appearing in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Hackers are also roaming freely on Warzone with the situation escalating in recent months. Black Ops 7 has a lot of work to do but this is a start.
