Fans of quality animation and fans of The Witcher series both are sure to be delighted this announcement. Netflix has Tweeted that acclaimed animation studio Studio Mir are hard at work on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Critics greeted the first season of Netflix’ The Witcher with mixed reviews, citing its confusing structure. Overall, however, it seems to have intrigued fans enough that Netflix is investing in an animated spin-off. Netflix’s “home of all things geek” account NX tweeted the following earlier today;

Excitement and Trepidation for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

Fans are greeting the announcement with equal praise and derision. Some Twitter users are showing excitement for Studio Mir’s involvement, citing the fluidity and fight choreography of Legend of Korra. Others are criticizing the decision, saying that the newness of The Witcher as a television franchise makes introducing a new medium this soon unwise. Reed Hastings, Netflix’s CEO, has called out The Witcher as being a “massive new franchise“, so clearly the media giant has its eyes set on milking Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series for all it is worth. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is following hot on the heels of The Witcher series, a live-action adaptation of the book series. The Witcher game series, which features three stellar titles, first brought the IP into the public eye.
