It has been announced that the sequel to Mortal Kombat is under production. That’s right folks audiences are getting the sequel to one (in this journalist’s opinion) of the best films of 2021.
Moon Knight scribe Jeremy Slater has been hired by New Line to write the next Mortal Kombat. This was reported today by Deadline. You can find the full article here. Other works of Slater’s include Uprising and The Umbrella Academy.
More Mortal Kombat
In the 2021 outing, original character Cole Young (played by Lewis Tan) was introduced to audiences as a new iteration of the blockbuster video game franchise saw Earthrealm go up against Outworld in the interdimensional tournament.
Though there was no official tournament there were many brutalities, fatalities and impressive fights. Iconic characters were seen, in particular Liu Kang and Kung Lao who were played with gusto by Ludi Lin and Max Huang respectively. The breakout star though was Josh Lawson who played the chaotic Kano.

The film had mixed reviews from critics and audiences though. Hopefully, this sequel will address some of the criticisms. These include getting rid of the dragon tattoo’s and the Arcana gimmick because honestly they made no sense and were completely unnecessary.
