Space game Avorion (by German indie team Boxelware) is still in Early Access on Steam but has already gathered an impressive following among core gamers. The community especially loves the shipbuilding aspect of the game – so we thought we’d give a shoutout to ten of the most impressive DIY-projects of the Avorion players:

The German User “Mächtiger Brankor” presents his new large ships, which consist of more than 8.000 blocks.

“Mächtiger Brankor” doesn’t shy away from space stations either. In this video he shows the 3.7 kilometre high station Neu-Berlin, consisting of almost 3,000 blocks.

In this video, Avorion player “Black Disciple” shows in detail the construction of his self-designed frigate. Despite increased playback speed, the video has a length of 36 minutes.

“The Alien Ant” presents in this video his various finds from the Avorion Steam Workshop.

Avorion fan “The Sethioz Project” has built his own Star Destroyer. The result is a gigantic ship consisting of 47,285 blocks.

With the Chariot Carrier, “Enigmus1” shows a large support ship, which equips the fleet of the players with large crew and weapon capacity.

“Games Games Games” does not show his own creations in this video, but those of his active community.

“Shrike Gaming” took a trip to the Avorion Steam Workshop and presents a selection of different ships in this video.

Once again “Mächtiger Brankor”: In this video he introduces his ship Dreadnought Avatar, which consists of 8,409 blocks and should provide Avorion players an all-rounder ship for the endgame.

The story of Avorion

A few centuries ago, an unknown cataclysmic event nearly tore the galaxy apart and spawned unsurmountable hyperspace rifts throughout the entire galaxy. Since then, the center of the galaxy has been cut off from the rest and a mysterious alien species, the Xsotan, has turned up there. Avorion is a procedurally generated sci-fi sandbox where players start out at the edge of the galaxy and must find their way to its core.

Players build their own ships, which they will use to explore the galaxy, trade, and fight. Space ships are mainly of large scale, with crews, turrets and energy systems that you will have to manage. The galaxy gets more hostile, but also more rewarding the closer players get to its core. You’re free to play however you want, as a mercenary, freighter captain, admiral, scavenger or pirate, it’s all up to you.

In Avorion, you can build a simple ship in two minutes, but the passionate community has also produced numerous complex designs that involve more than 50,000 blocks. There are a lot of variables involved in such a massive spaceship: for example, the size of the engine has to be in the right proportion to the weight of the ship. Using these ships, players can explore the galaxy, mine resources, trade goods or become the commander of an entire fleet, steering their armada through battles and wars like in a real-time strategy game.

  • Procedural Galaxy, Factions, Ships and Space Stations

The young developers from Boxelware are very proud of the success of their game and the commitment of their community.
