A new Game of Thrones game was not on my bingo card, but here we are. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has been unveiled announced during Summer Game Fest. Admittedly, it looks set to shake things up for the franchise. PlaySide are both developing and publishing the upcoming real-time strategy game, set for release in 2026.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is said to be drawing inspiration directly from George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed novel series. This means that players may have the opportunity to change certain outcomes from the TV show. Hopefully that will include the ending. I was a die-hard Game of Thrones fan when the show was airing, but even I was disappointed by the conclusion. Unfortuneately, we do have quite the wait ahead to find out how many differences there are.

War for Westeros will allow players to lead an army, with a choice of which you want to command. Choices include House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King. Interestingly, each faction will have different strategies for players to learn. After all, the battlefield is a free-for-all. And no one can really be trusted, not in war anyways.
