It’s been a hot minute but things are heating up as we approach the Switch 2 launch! Nintendo’s megahit Switch system launched in 2017 and despite being light on horsepower provided console style gaming to a handheld audience with great aplomb. Excitement and expectations are high for the successor console and one-time Nintendo rival SEGA is supporting the launch with two of their most well-received modern titles!
Gotta launch fast!
Shadow x Sonic Generations is a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations. Generations was notable at the time for being an incredibly well-reviewed Sonic title, after a notable rough patch in the hedgehog’s gaming career. Heck, Generations even CELEBRATED some of these poor games! With 2D classic side-scrolling stages and 3D third-person (third hedgehog?) levels, it was a perfect showcase of the value of the franchise, peaks and valleys alike. This remaster puts the spotlight on the edgelord himself, Shadow with new levels based on his gaming history. With Mario taking the Switch 2 launch behind the wheel, Shadow x Sonic Generations will provide the platformer of choice for the new console launch.
Zero-sum game
For a very different experience, Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut will be a haven for those craving a taste of the underworld. This late-80s set prequel to the main series is a standout, with many fans declaring it the best in the series. The rise of Kiryu and Majima is an epic tale, and new console owners will easily be able to jump into the series thanks to its prequel status. This director’s cut promises new cutscenes, a brand-new multiplayer mode and new dubs and localisations, bringing Yakuza’s Tokyo on a global tour! With bonkers side-quests, chaotic combat and much more, new players are in for a real treat.
While both games are older titles, they have dedicated fan bases and are highly regarded. Strategically they fill in some genre gaps on the Switch 2 launch line-up. The console and these titles release on June 5th and GamEir will be covering the launch as it comes!
