God of War: Laufey is the next entry in the acclaimed God of War series. The game follows Faye, Krato’s wife and Atreus’s mother, as she awakens in a strange land following her death in the 2018 epic, God of War.
New Gods, Same Problems
PlayStation revealed 20 minutes of gameplay of the new title at last night’s State of Play. It opens with the famous scene of Kratos and Atreus burning her body at the pyre in the 2018 title. After this, she awakens in a world where other Gods from different mythologies seem to live.
We were shown 20 minutes of gameplay, as players will control Faye and her sword as they take on new tough enemies, including Begtse, a giant red beast, who is the Mongolian God of War. Faye engages in a visually brilliant and brutal battle with him at the end of the 20-minute video.
Faye is played by Deborah Ann Woll, from the Daredevil series, while The Boys star Jack Quaid voices a cube (yes, really) called Phranque, who is joining Faye on her adventure. Another character will also be joining them. A magical, talking ribbon called Rue, who is tasked with keeping a powerful sword from falling into the wrong hands. This will be an interesting trio to follow.
Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of Healing and Pestilence, is also present in the game and seems to be the main antagonist. Kratos also appeared twice in the reveal and may play a pivotal role in the game as Faye fights to protect him and Atreus, as she hints that this may spell danger for them.
The Giant Warrior
We will finally see Faye in action. In the last two God of War games, we were told how much of a warrior she was. Faye could go toe-to-toe with Thor as she did fight against the Norse Gods who tried to wipe her kind, the Giants from existence.
She will have many powers and abilities, and she seems more agile than Kratos as she wields swords and magical spells. Expect the same satisfying combat gameplay from the God of War series, as Faye is fast and brutal with her attacks. Players were only shown small glimpses of her spells, but hopefully, we will see more as we get closer to release. No release date has been given yet. Check out the gameplay below.
