I have recently purchased my Steam Deck and have been enjoying playing through my Steam library, which I previously used on my decent laptop. Then I was offered V Rising to review during the Halloween period and pounced at the opportunity.
I sank my fangs in and didn’t let go
There is so much to do in V Rising, and even after hours of playing it, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. Much like the creatures of the night within this game, there are many mysteries to unlock. As I chose the design of my undead monster, I found myself immediately struck by the choice of designs.
I spent a while choosing my vampire, and I was seriously pleased. This was from a combination of a decent selection of vampires and a visually striking game. There is a sharpness to the world that I adore. From the moment you awaken in your crypt and craft your weapons to make your mark in this ancient world, there is an addictiveness in the air, and I don’t just mean the blood found in all the creatures across the world.
I jumped into a server with my friends, and we hacked and slashed our way through miners, hunters, beasts, and so much more.
Built upon a mountain of blood
V Rising wants you to become the best vampire you can be. You do this by building your castle from the resources you find all around you. These resources include the usual: trees, bones, and rocks. Then it becomes more exotic with items you can only get by beating powerful bosses. The world is built on blood, the blood of Dracula and bosses hold a significant amount of it. Once you kill them, you drain them and harness their abilities. And when you see this trail of blood, you will be in awe of how far this game can go.
My friends and I killed several of these during our playthrough, and I can’t wait to go back and cut a bloody swathe through more of them. I also found that V Rising ran perfectly on my Steam Deck, no issues, even when I was hosting.
If I had any issues with V Rising, it would have to do with the migration from server to server. While playing, I had to restart four times when I transitioned to a new server. Is this a nitpick? Probably, however, this is where I found my biggest issues. V Rising is a near-perfect game, just make sure you’ve got a clan, as it can feel lonely out there at night if you don’t bring friends along for the tasting.
