Since the start of the PS3 era, Naughty Dog has made games to let us explore our world (the Uncharted series) or survive in its ruins (The Last of Us) but now is letting players leave it behind altogther. At the Game Awards, the studio finally debuted their first new IP since 2013 with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

This gloriously overblown title gives the feeling of a weird 70’s sci-fi novel but the vibes of the trailer are firmly 80’s and 90’s inspired, with Cowboy Bebop and Akira namedropped by Neil Druckmann as influences.

This title promises a universe of adventure as you step into the role of a space bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun. Jordan becomes trapped on the planet Sempiria and must use her wits and giant sword to try and find a way off this dangerous world. Excitingly Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be scoring the game and if the trailer music is any indication, this is shaping up to be a very special interstellar escapade. Promisingly a characteristically narrative-focused title, Intergalactic looks set to stun.

Though no release window has been suggested, this game has been in the works since 2020 so hopefully, news will come sooner than later.
