Oi, you! Yeah, you mate. Why don’t you walk on over ‘ere and I’ll tell you a story? You see, there’s this video game publisher called Curve Digital. They ‘ave asked them over at FutureLabs created a game for the Peaky Blinders. An’ get this, they call it Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. ‘Cause we all know Tommy ‘as one o’ them people, who are good at plannin’. Now, one might say that licensed games are generally a load o’ rubbish. But you should never judge a book by its cover, mate.

It’s all in the way you look at things

Like every great story, this game is all about the chapters. You see mate, every one o’ them chapters presents you with a different kind o’ challenge. The Blinders wouldn’t be the Blinders if things were ever too easy. In the beginnin’ you’re introduced to the chapter by a series of still images and text, giving you the rundown o’ whats’ going on. The game itself is an isometric adventure puzzle game. Yeah, I know, big words that can mean anything or nothing. First, you’re setting out with Tommy, ’cause he heard something of interest went down.

Time is of the essence

Look, not everyone can work under pressure. The Peaky Blinders thrive one the going gets tough. The biggest difference to other isometric games is the time feature. You see, when you need something done, you need to make sure it gets done. That is achieved by either interacting with an NPC or having a playable character do an action. Once that action is set on the timeline, you can rewind and have the other characters walk through a now opening door, get passed guards or by other kinds of obstacles. It did take myself a bit of time to get the rhythm going. Especially when I took a break and played something else. Each chapter ‘as one o’ them time limits. The faster you get stuff done, the better your rank will be.

Them Peaky Blinders got skills

During each chapter, you will have different Blinders to work with, yeah. Tommy can persuade certain NPCs to open doors or pull levers. Ada is good at gettin’ guards to look the other way. I haven’t met a man who couldn’t keep his eyes of o’ her. Other blinders like Polly and Arthur also join you along the way. You’re going to need to make sure you know what they can do, to complete each chapter. ‘Cause I can tell ya mate, they ain’t gettin’ any easier. Birmingham ain’t no easy turf, as we all know. If you make a mistake, you can always rewind or restart the chapter an’ try again.

So, what do ya say, mate?

Overall I had a good time with Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. The story is interesting and well presented. The drawings have a style that fits the universe. So, I would suggest you better be headin’ over to one o’ them stores that sell them video games. An’ once you’re done, you best be watchin’ all seasons of Peaky Blinders on Netflix.
