Following a thirteen-year hiatus since the third instalment, Ninja Gaiden returns with Ninja Gaiden 4! At yesterday’s Xbox Developer Direct, Team Ninja announced their new collaboration with Platinum Games for a return to their iconic action-adventure flagship series. Despite Xbox breaking the news and publishing this title, it will also be heading to PS5 later this year, which is the new norm for their games. A pretty spectacular trailer showcases the new character Yakumo attacking foes in a cyberpunk city using blood-based weaponry. Series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa also returns with his segments looking to offer a more traditional Ninja Gaiden experience.
Fans of Metal Gear Rising will be incredibly excited to see Platinum return to the world of ninja hack n’ slash action. With a surprise announcement and release of a Ninja Gaiden 2 remake, it feels like a lot of momentum is behind this franchise rejuvenation. Team Ninja is one of the most prolific teams in gaming so it’ll be fascinating to see how they reinvent the series that gave them their name.
Ninja Gaiden 4 will launch towards the end of 2025 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will be offered as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription on day one.
