Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has had a successful launch week in the United Kingdom, topping the UK physical sales charts. It caps off a perfect week for Hideo Kojima as the game has also enjoyed acclaim from critics and players. The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 original released worldwide on June 26 on PlayStation 5.

Kojima Is Back On Top

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach beat out some tough competition for the top spot. The Hideo Kojima game beat out the new Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition which finished in third place on the UK physical charts. Editor-in-chief and co-founder of The Game Business, Christopher Dring, tweeted about Death Stranding 2’s sale numbers in the UK. He revealed that Death Stranding 2’s sales were 66% lower than it’s predecessor but said this was due to ”different eras” and a ”far more digital market”.

Back Delivering Packages

Of course the main gameplay mechanic of Death Stranding 2 is delivering packages. Players once again take control of Sam Porter Bridges as he attempts to extend the chiral network around Mexico and Australia. Sam faces all types of danger out in the wild while delivering packages, from Beached Things (BTs) and armed bandits. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach received critical acclaim and is currently sitting on an impressive 90 score on Metacritic. The User Score is also going strong, hitting 8.9 based on 1,135 user ratings as of writing this article. Safe to say, we may have another Game of The Year contender on our hands, although Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the leading favourite to bring that award home.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Sam and Lou.

Hideo Kojima is back in form with this new release. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is just one point behind Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on Metacritic. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is usually considered Kojima’s best work among Metal Gear fans so it is good to see a legend of the industry back to his best.
