World War Z

Just when you thought we were done with zombies, here’s a butt-load more of em…

Saber Interactive, indie dev and publisher, have dropped a new trailer for upcoming zombie game World War Z. The game is based on the movie, and not the much better book. World War Z is third person shooter, with up to four player co-op. The game is built on Saber’s dynamic Swarm Engine, which allows hundreds of “Zekes” to, well, swarm, at any one time. There’s no confirmed release date other than “2019”, and it will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Zombie Elephants

Listen, lets address the elephant in the room. I’m sick of Zombies, you’re sick of zombies, hell even my granny is sick of zombies, but let’s at least give Saber Interactive the benefit of the doubt. Sure, the World War Z movie was a bit of an incoherent mess, but Saber do have a decent pedigree. To date, they’ve released Quake Champions, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, amongst others. Granted they didn’t actually create those legendary titles, but they did good remasters! Right!? Ah hell, lets just look at the official spiel:

Each of World War Z’s six playable classes comes loaded with several unique perks, but here’s a taste of what’s in store for the undead hordes when you play:

  • Gunslinger For those who skip the questions and shoot first, the Gunslinger is loaded with an arsenal of weapon damage and ammo-boosting perks to mow down the dead.

  • Hellraiser Enough explosives can solve any problem! Hellraisers come armed with C4 and other tools for effective crowd control.

  • Slasher – For warriors with a sense of elegance, the best way to kill is with your trusty blade. Slashers have perks that increase melee damage and effectiveness while their armed tasers deliver electrifying results.

  • Medic Sometimes the best way to fight the undead is keeping your teammates from becoming one of them. Armed with a Stim Pistol, Medics can heal fellow survivors from a distance and help keep the chaos under control.

  • Fixer When versatility in any situation is the highest priority, the Fixer is there for you, starting out with an explosive ammo case and several teammate ammo-restoring perks.

  • Exterminator Fire is the answer! Armed with Molotov cocktails and increased fire damage, the Exterminator just wants to watch the undead burn.

The Class War

Check out the new trailer below. All six character classes are featured, including a background look at some of the games locations. These will include New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and more. I’m trying to not to get my hopes up for this one, but the footage so far is surprisingly good. Ah what the heck, maybe its time to dust off the machete, prime some grenades, and go zombie-killing again. “YOU’RE GONNA BURN, ZOMBIE BA****DS!!”. GamEir.
