The Playstation 5 reveal brought many things with it, from new games to finally showing the console. But of course, there was something in there for your favourite horror queen. We have been given our first look at Resident Evil 8. The new entry to the infamous saga, dubbed Resident Evil Village, is set for release in 2021. The spooky announcement trailer has shown us a dark new setting, and a whole new atmosphere to broaden the saga.
Let’s get into the details! Resident Evil Village is being developed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, which was used in previous hits like Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, the remakes of both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, as well as also being used in Devil May Cry 5. This is all being paired with next generation console technology to completely elevate the survival horror experience.
Story-wise, the game picks up several years after Resident Evil 7. Ethan, our protagonist from 7, is living a peaceful life with his wife Mia, in a new location, free from nightmares. However, this peace isn’t set to last. Tragedy soon befalls the pair as they try to build their new life. The couple is reacquainted with legendary hero Chris Redfield, and a now devastated Ethan is thrown into a new nightmare.
Once again in first person, players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan, as he sets out to uncover mysterious new horrors that are now plaguing a once peaceful village. Throughout this journey, players are set to fight for every breath, hunted by new enemies in a snow-capped locale. This new trailer also gave us a sneak peek at one of these new enemies… what looks to be a werewolf.
Horror Queen’s First Thoughts
Personally, I would sell my soul for this game. I screamed, and almost cried when I realised what I was watching. I am a HUGE Resi 7 fan, and if Village is following in its footsteps, we are in for a real treat. It is taking every bit of self control I have right now to not lose my mind here. Excited doesn’t begin to cover it. This is my kind of game, through and through. I live and breathe horror, and I will be dissecting this reveal in my dreams. I wanted new Resident Evil, I am getting new Resident Evil. Also, it seems like people should really NOT live in villages anymore… Quaint accommodation or horror game waiting to happen?! Dun dun dun….
Roll on 2021.
