Welcome (back) to the jungle
Kept you waiting huh? After a lengthy wait since the announcement, Metal Gear Solid: Delta the remake of the PS2 classic Snake Eater finally has a release date! Fans of tactical espionage action still have a bit of a wait ahead of them but now August 28th this year is confirmed as the launch day for this gorgeous-looking reinterpretation. With last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake being warmly received it seems like Konami is set on reestablishing their major franchises by revisiting them at their PS2 peak.
Snake Eater, the third in the Metal Gear Solid series is set during the Cold War with Naked Snake being sent on a mission to assassinate his former mentor in a Soviet jungle. Lauded for its camouflage system, 60’s setting and emotionally impactful story, it also works well as a fairly standalone title to introduce new players to the mad world of Metal Gear. With a less-than-pleasant split between Konami and series creator Hideo Kojima, it seems unlikely that new instalments may be developed but hopefully this will lead to revamped versions of all the classic titles.
Excitingly for PlayStation players at least, the classic Snake vs Monkey minigame that crosses the worlds of Metal Gear and Ape Escape will return in this remake. No news yet whether the long absent nightmare sequence will return but regardless this remake looks like a dream come true for Metal Gear fans. With multiple collectors editions being offered, August 28th will be a big day for Naked Snake and company.
