Microsoft have announced their plans to acquire Activision Blizzard Inc. The acquisition is costing the company a whopping $68.7 billion (just shy of €60.4 billion). When the transaction closes, Microsoft will become the third-largest gaming company in the world. This is just behind Tecent and Sony.
Included in this acquisition are many iconic franchises, such as;
- Warcraft
- Diablo
- Call of Duty
- Overwatch
- Candy Crush
They will also acquire more on the global eSports front, through Major League Gaming. Microsoft is hoping this acquisition will accelerate their growth across mobile, PC, console and cloud. It should also provide them with building blocks for the metaverse.
Bobby Kotick will continue to serve as CEO for Activision Blizzard. He and his team will continue their efforts to further strengthen the company’s culture and accelerate business growth.
